The Importance of a Good Night Sleep

Have you ever wonder what the worst thing you can do in a given day is? Well, for me, it’s staying up late at night and depriving myself of a long & satisfying night's sleep. I’m the kind of person that needs adequate sleep and for good reasons: I’m trying to lose weight and be more productive at the same time.

After realizing that I've packed on a few extra pounds, I made a decision in my life: I need to have a balanced lifestyle with my work, diet, exercise and sleep.

As I scanned across various weight loss tips on the web, I stumbled across numerous articles regarding the importance of sleep in our life. It's funny because, sleep is often attributed to laziness and tardiness but in fact, it’s the other way around.

So here are what I’ve gathered so far regarding the importance of a good night's sleep:

  • Improved Performance – Studies have shown that simply losing 2-3 hours of a night-time sleep impairs our bodily functions and decision making skills. So basically, a person that gets close to 8 hours of sleep per day on average gets the highest productivity output in their lives both at work and at home.

  • Healthy heart and mind – Numerous research shows that sleep is vital in improving your memory as well as your ability to learn new skills. Also, sleep is linked to the repair and healing of your arteries and blood vessels which in turn, promotes a healthier heart.

  • Vital in losing weight – As sleep affects productivity and function, weight-loss is directly affected by it. So if you’re looking to shed pounds and maximize your efficiency in the gym, sleep is definitely a must.

  • Sleep deprivation is attributed to depression – With regards to mental health issues, sleep plays a vital role especially in depression. Several studies confirmed that patients suffering from depression also suffer mild to severe sleep deficiency. So better get in a solid 8 hours sleep to improve your mood!

  • Enhances Creativity – One of the main reasons why I take sleep very seriously is the fact that it enhances one’s creativity. Being able to constantly improve the next day is linked to a good night's sleep. So always make time for a good night's rest... doze off!

I hope you never take sleep lightly again. As for me, I’ve been constantly adjusting my schedule and always make time for quality rest. If you love sleep as much as I do, let me know your thoughts and ideas about it in the comments section down below!
